Project Background |
I picked up a few Exactrail PS 4427 "low-hip" covered hoppers not too long ago. They were in roadnames I didn't really want/need (e.g. Northern Pacific), but I'm a fan of stripping (paint). So a little fine grit wet sanding to remove the lettering, and a bit of repriming and we were ready to go.

Painting & Weathering |
After removing the side lettering, a succession of grays landed me at the final color. I used Model Master acrylics: they have a wide assortment of grays (some of which I use regularly as my final overcoat for many other cars, e.g. Light Ghost Grey). The irregular yellowish panel I found irresistible, so this was a fun one to do.
Dappled on oil paint, with chalk applied on top, formed the rust.
Summary |
I was planning on selling this car, but now I think I won't (at least not now).
